Facial veins are small thread or spider veins. Although these are very common, facial vein removal is a specialized procedure that requires an expert’s touch. They can be red or bluish, and are usually clustered or concentrated to an area (cheek, nose, chin). Sometimes they give a flushed appearance. These vein formations with numerous radiating lines (resembling a spider’s web) are a cosmetic concern for millions. Facial veins are most commonly found around the nose but may occur around the cheeks and lower face area, or under the eye. Here at the Laser Lipo and Vein Center St Louis, we offer quality spider vein treatment so you can get rid of these veins quick!
Facial veins are linked to sun exposure. These veins are very easily seen on people with very fair skin. Age is also a factor. Certain skin conditions such as Rosacea or Acne Rosacea can cause prominent facial veins.
Sunscreen and hats and other measures that limit sun exposure are the best way to prevent facial veins. If you have Rosacea, regular treatment of this condition may prevent the associated facial vascularity it causes.
Sclerotherapy can be used on the bluish veins that occur often around the temples and eyes.
Fine, reddish facial veins are removed with a VeinWave radiofrequency device (see below) or an Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) treatment. The light from IPL destroys the abnormal veins while leaving normal areas alone, without excessive discomfort. With IPL, there is minimal recovery time after your facial vein removal procedure. There is no recovery time with VeinWave and the results are immediate.
Both VeinWave and intense pulsed light are generally safe but there is a risk of pigment change or scarring in a dark-skinned individual. There is a rare risk of a skin breakdown possibly leading to a scar from sclerotherapy facial vein removal.
Spider vein treatment on the face is an outpatient procedure. This facial vein removal treatment option is generally 10-20 minutes. The physician covers your eyes safely and securely, and applies a laser instrument to the area of treatment with a hand-held probe. The treatment feels like a rubber band snapping on the area. For maximum comfort, numbing cream may be applied before the facial vein removal treatment.
Recovery from facial vein removal using laser or light is not difficult or painful. You will have no pain but the skin may have a sunburn appearance for a few days. Mild swelling and redness completely resolve within 7 to 10 days.
There is no discomfort or after-effect from VeinWave treatment. A radiofrequency probe is applied to facial skin, causing visible veins to close. After treatment, the face is red or pink but this subsides with cool compresses or a short amount of time.

I have a lot of veins in my hands and I don’t want them. What treatment options do I have?First off you must take into account hand veins are not the same as leg veins. Treating hand veins are almost always cosmetic and not medically necessary. I would explore why you do not want the hand veins to begin with. Are they unsightly, painful, make your hands look old? Are there other skin changes on your hands such as sun or age spots that are contributing to the way your hands look? If you fully understand that treating hand veins is purely cosmetic than I would recommend establishing care with someone that treats veins and has treated hand veins in the past. Veins in the hand can be treated with sclerotherapy.
I have spider veins on multiple areas of my body, and I’d really like to have more than just the ones on the legs treated. Can spider veins on the face/neck area, hands, and arms be treated, and what procedure do you recommend?Spider veins of the face are usually treated with laser light therapy but some of the bluish veins around temples are often treated better with sclerotherapy. Spider veins of the hands and legs tend to do better with sclerotherapy but some tiny reddish vessels are well treated by a cutaneous laser or light treatment.
Dr Wright and the staff at Laser Lipo and Vein Center are the BEST! I have had leg vein problems for years and have been to numerous doctors all over the St Louis area. Was still not happy with the results I had achieved with these other doctors. When I found the flyer/coupon for Laser Lipo and Vein Center I thought why not try one more. From my first visit to my last I am so pleased with the results! The staff and Dr Wright were knowledgeable, informative, and very caring about the procedures that were to be done which were basically painless! Besides my co-pymts my insurance covered it all! I would recommend him to all who are in need of the services they provide!
