Chin Liposuction vs Coolsculpting

For many, contouring the body to a preferred size and shape comes down to a dedicated diet and regular exercise. However, there are some areas that remain unresponsive to these efforts over time. The chin is a particularly difficult region of the body as it concerns fat deposits and loss of elasticity. These factors combined lead to sagging skin or a misshapen appearance that proves displeasing. Advances in the field of cosmetic alteration have created an array of options for patients hoping to make changes to the chin. While both popular procedures amongst patients, chin liposuction and Coolsculpting present some differences worth noting.

Invasive vs Non-Invasive Approach

Technological advancements in the field means patients now have the option to choose between invasive and non-invasive procedures when it comes to chin alterations. More traditional chin liposuction no longer requires patients to undergo general anesthesia but does require a local anesthetic and fat deposit removal through the use of suction and a cannula. As an alternative, Coolsculpting is a completely non-invasive approach to fat removal. Physicians can quickly freeze fat deposits away from the exterior of the skin, eliminating the need for anesthesia of any sort.

Patient Profile Consideration

When it comes to cosmetic procedures, patient profile and medical history should be an integral part of constructing a treatment plan. While the risks associated with general anesthesia are eliminated for those undergoing chin liposuction, this method is not recommended for patients over the age of 50 who tend to experience longer recovery periods and see less successful results as skin elasticity is naturally diminished. Available to a wider-range of candidates, Coolsculpting requires a patient to be in generally good health and close to their ideal body weight in relationship to height.

Procedure Response and Results

Both chin liposuction and Coolsculpting prove extremely successful and for many patients, the choice between the two will come down to expected recovery periods and number of required sessions. While much more invasive, chin liposuction provides permanent results and can be completed in a single session. Patients can expect approximately a week of recovery time with moderate swelling and minimal bruising. Those who undergo Coolsculpting will participate in 1-2 sessions as recommended by the performing physician with virtually no recovery period. Chin liposuction is often performed with skin tightening so chin liposuction is the preferred treatment if there is loose or sagging skin. Patients are free to resume normal activities the same day as the procedure is completed and generally experience minimal pain. Coolsculpting is usually a bit more expensive especially if two or more treatments are needed.
