The most common warts usually have a cauliflower looking top and are usually found on the hands; however, they can appear anywhere. Other common warts appear with a smooth, flat surface and are often located on the face and forehead.
Another type of warts — Plantar warts — are rough and spongy with dark pinpoints. The color of plantar warts can include gray, brown, yellow or skin colored. This type of wart is usually located on the ball, heel, or sole of the foot and often make it painful to run or walk.
Subungual and peri-ungual warts have a rough texture and are usually located in the toenail and fingernail region, with subungual warts found under the nails. If these wart types go untreated, they can grow and become very painful. In certain cases, they can cause the nail to detach from the nail bed
Genital warts are usually single or multiple bumps that occur in the genital area. These types of warts are also known as rectal, penile, vaginal or anal warts. They usually look like small growths, and are considered to be very contagious.
