The Association of Facial Rejuvenation and Ratings of Attractiveness and Success

It has been shown through several different studies and research that attractive people are often hired sooner, receive promotions more quickly, and are usually paid more. According to Daniel Hamermesh, of the University of Texas, attractive people earn an average of 3 or 4 percent more.(1)

In an article published in Psychology Today, professor Dario Maestripieri of comparative human development, evolutionary biology, and neurobiology at the University of Chicago states that “Good-looking people are more appealing as potential sex partners, and [so] other people choose to interact with them, to spend time near them, talk with them, buy insurance from them, and hire them as employees.”(2)

In a study published in JAMA Facial Plastic Surgery in April 2017, a study delved into determining if face lift and other facial rejuvenation surgery can improve the “societal perceptions of attractiveness, success, and health, conferring an even larger social benefit than just restoring a youthful appearance to the face.”(3)

During the study, a total of 504 participants completed a web-based survey. The survey featured before and after photos of facial rejuvenation surgery. Participants ranked perceived success attractiveness and health using a 100-point scale.

The conclusion of this study determined that those who underwent facial rejuvenation procedures were considered more attractive by casual observers. The facial rejuvenation procedures also proved to present a more improved perception of success and health. Overall, the results suggest that facial rejuvenation provides a larger benefit other than just restoring a youthful appearance.
