If you are considering PRP therapy, one of your main questions is probably whether this procedure is safe. Generally speaking, PRP is an extremely safe procedure. Let’s look at the overall therapy so you can understand why it is so safe.
PRP or platelet rich plasma therapy uses your own blood platelets to increase the healing and/or rejuvenation process. The therapy is used for several different medical situations or conditions, including:
• Sports injuries
• ACL injuries
• Plantar fasciitis
• Rotator cuff tears
In is also a very effective skin rejuvenation therapy, which we at the Laser Lipo and Vein Center often administer to our patients.
During a PRP therapy procedure, blood is drawn and then processed to separate the components. The platelet rich plasma is then injected back into the patient. Often, we administer what is called the vampire facial, a technique where the facial area is micro-needled and then the PRP serum applied. This causes the facial skin to rejuvenate with healthy, fresh, glowing skin.
Because the blood used during PRP therapy is the patient’s own, there are no risks of allergic reaction or infections that are possible with some other procedures. There are a few risks that can occur, such as mild irritation, itching, bruising, or swelling. However, these are usually temporary, and will generally subside after a few days. PRP is over all one of the least risky facial rejuvenation or enhancement procedures because it does not involve invasive surgery.
